Charles River Kayak Outing
Saturday, August 23rd
"Down by the river, down by the banks of the river Charles" That's where you'll find us! Won't you come along?! (The water isn't dirty anymore--just lyrics to a vintage song!)
Calling all kayakers and first-timers, too! Join us on Saturday, August 23 for a paddle outing on a beautiful section of the Charles River.
We will meet and carpool early in the morning on Sat., August 23 to enjoy coffee and snack/breakfast in the parking lot before embarking on our kayak adventure. You may bring your own kayak or rentals are available. Click for rental rates and online waiver form. Rental includes boat, life jacket, and paddles.
We will launch from the Paddle Boston Allston/Brighton location and have a 3-hr (ish) paddle outing on a very scenic section of urban river in the country. Frank (a fellow S.E.E. Mates member some of you may know from our RI paddle, a European ski trip, VT skiing, or even Giggles!3) will lead us on the Charles River upstream from Allston/Brighton along a very scenic section of the Charles as far as we can go within the allotted time and return downstream with the help of a slow current. We will enjoy some beautiful scenery with parkland on both shores and may encounter rowers plying the waters as well as some local wildlife. Note: Paddle route is subject to change based on the direction of the current.
Following our paddle, we will enjoy a group tailgate at the nearby park!
Cost (donation toward snack/beverage): $5.00 S.E.E. Mates reservation fee + rental
For those of us who will be renting (most of us!):
All renters must reserve a kayak and complete the waiver form online at: https://paddleboston.com/rentals/our-locations/boston-allston-brighton/
Note that Paddle Boston has several locations, be sure to reserve at the Allston Brighton location for 3 hours starting at 9:30 AM.
Also be aware that both single and double (tandem) kayaks are available for rent. As you will see on the rate charts, doubles are less expensive per person and two people paddling makes for an easier trip. If that sounds good, find a partner and make one reservation for the two of you (each must still complete a waiver).
For all participants PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) aka life jackets are required to be properly fitted and worn at all times when on the water. They are included in the cost of your rental. If you are bringing your own boat make sure you have one with you.
Reservation window will be limited to first come/first serve by Wednesday, August 20th to allow for a final count and carpool logistics.
Please note: the Charles River Canoe & Kayak Centre is a manned-kiosk set-up between the parking lot and the river and NOT a storefront location.
