All aboard!! Let's take the train to Maine! This is a cool day trip adventure first offered by Terry K, a local Meetup organizer guru, who comes up with the most unique outings. Thinking this will be a great adventure for S.E.E. Mates, too! Write up courtesy of Terry K.

On Wednesday, December 10th, we will travel to Freeport, Maine via Amtrak's Downeaster and head to Freeport for its annual Sparkle Celebrationl! From Exeter, the fare is $30 RT adult, $15 RT senior (65+).

We’ll take the Amtrak Downeaster (details below) arriving in Freeport at 11:55am, and once there we’re free to S.E.E. = shop, eat, and explore! The train drops us off just minutes from main street, so no long walk to get to all the fun. 

LL Bean isn't the only attraction as there are dozens of shops, outlets, restaurants, etc. Some local favorites are Georgetown Pottery, Sea Bags, Eastern Mtn. Sports, Wicked Whoopies, the Patagonia and North Face outlets, the Mangy Moose, and the list goes on and on. 

And shopping isn't all there is as Freeport goes all out for Christmas. There's a Twinkle Light Tunnel, a model train village, the Big Snow Globe, Santa and his reindeer, heated benches, hot chocolate around town, curling lanes, a decorated Discovery Park, an outdoor skating rink, and more.

When we get there it's not necessary for all of us to stay together as a group as we all have different interests and ideas as of what we want to do, see and eat and explore, optional meet up for lunch.  At the end of the day, it is most important to meet at the train station in time for the 5:58pm train home since it's the last southbound train.

For this S.E.E. Mates' event there's no limit to the number of attendees, and feel free to bring a guest to shop, eat, and explore with! But please register everyone so we have an accurate rsvp. Everyone will be on the Wait List until you email info@myseemates.com letting me know that you have purchased your train ticket.

Amtrak tickets cannot be purchased on the train, you must purchase them ahead of time online. This is a popular day trip and  the train may sell out, so purchase your tickets soon if you intend to go.

I do not suggest that you take the train out of Haverhill due to the cost ($64 RT adult, $32 RT senior.

The train from Exeter is $30 RT adult, $15 RT senior (65 plus).

Parking at the Exeter station can be challenging and its small parking lot will likely be full, but there is ample on street parking! If you are planning to leave from Exeter, you may want to carpool.
