    Charles River Kayak Outing

    Saturday, August 23rd

"Down by the river, down by the banks of the river Charles" That's where you'll find us! Won't you come along?! (The water isn't dirty anymore--just lyrics to a vintage song!)

Calling all kayakers and first-timers, too! Join us on Saturday, August 23 for a paddle outing on a beautiful section of the Charles River.

We will meet and carpool early in the morning on Sat., August 23 to enjoy coffee and snack/breakfast in the parking lot before embarking on our kayak adventure. You may bring your own kayak or rentals are available. Click for rental rates and online waiver form. Rental includes boat, life jacket, and paddles.

We will launch from the Paddle Boston Allston/Brighton location and have a 3-hr (ish) paddle outing on a very scenic section of urban river in the country. Frank (a fellow S.E.E. Mates member some of you may know from our RI paddle, a European ski trip, VT skiing, or even Giggles!3) will lead us on the Charles River upstream from Allston/Brighton along a very scenic section of the Charles as far as we can go within the allotted time and return downstream with the help of a slow current. We will enjoy some beautiful scenery with parkland on both shores and may encounter rowers plying the waters as well as some local wildlife. Note: Paddle route is subject to change based on the direction of the current.

Following our paddle, we will enjoy a group tailgate at the nearby park!

Cost (donation toward snack/beverage): $5.00 S.E.E. Mates reservation fee + rental

For those of us who will be renting (most of us!):

All renters must reserve a kayak and complete the waiver form online at: https://paddleboston.com/rentals/our-locations/boston-allston-brighton/

Note that Paddle Boston has several locations, be sure to reserve at the Allston Brighton location for 3 hours starting at 9:30 AM.

Also be aware that both single and double (tandem) kayaks are available for rent. As you will see on the rate charts, doubles are less expensive per person and two people paddling makes for an easier trip. If that sounds good, find a partner and make one reservation for the two of you (each must still complete a waiver).

For all participants PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) aka life jackets are required to be properly fitted and worn at all times when on the water. They are included in the cost of your rental. If you are bringing your own boat make sure you have one with you.

Reservation window will be limited to first come/first serve by Wednesday, August 20th to allow for a final count and carpool logistics.

Please note: the Charles River Canoe & Kayak Centre is a manned-kiosk set-up between the parking lot and the river and NOT a storefront location.

BIKE, BOAT, & BITES in Provincetown - Day Trip

    Sunday, August 24th

Are you ready for another local adventure? Let's head to Provincetown for the day! We will take advantage of free Boston on street parking on Sundays and then enjoy a combo sightseeing and ferry trip to/from Provincetown. Sit back and relax while we enjoy a morning cup of coffee or even light breakfast on board the ferry! Take in the sights of the Boston city skyline from a different vantage point as we cruise through Boston Harbor and its islands, it will be a mini Vay-K!

We will take the 9:00 AM Boston - Provincetown ferry (arrives 10:30 AM) and 5:30 PM Provincetown - Boston return ferry (arrives 7:00 PM)

Order your ferry tickets on the link below. City Experiences offers both adult and senior pricing with additional $20 roundtrip to transport bicycles. Purchase your tickets early as tickets are subject to dynamic pricing (subj to change based on demand).  https://www.cityexperiences.com/boston/city-cruises/provincetown-ferry/  Cancellation insurance is available.

Today's bike ride will meander through the quaint village streets of Provincetown to the outskirts of Cape Cod to Truro and back for a total of approximately 22 miles. While there is lots of history with the landing of the Pilgrims, early inhabitants, and maritime this is not meant to be a guided tour. There will be plenty of time after our ride to explore more of the village and its unique fun and vibrant vibe!

Non-riders welcome. While some of us are off exploring by bike, there's plenty of cool boutiques, restaurants, and art galleries to explore along Commercial Street. Or, check out the Provincetown Museum or the Pilgrim Monument and climb the 252' tower for a breathtaking panoramic view of Cape Cod.

Carpool opportunities will be annouced during the week based on rsvp's leading up to our adventure.

S.E.E. Mates will not cancel this event unless the ferry cancels.

All bicycle riders must wear helmets.

    Rescheduled MYOPIA POLO! New date...

September 14th - Gates open at 1:30 pm

Couldn't make it last Sunday? Here's your chance again! Sunday's (June 8) matches were cancelled due to poor field conditions. We have now rescheduled our Myopia event until September 14th.

Myopia Polo is one of the oldest active clubs in the country and it's almost in our backyard!! Let's enjoy the fresh air, tailgating, and a polo match! Spectators are welcome to bring their own food and beverage and are allowed to have tailgate parties prior and during the matches! I haven't been in many years, but if my memory serves me correctly, there were some pretty fancy tailgating going on!

The matches are open to the public. The admission fee is $20 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the gate or order online here.

Your tickets from our cancelled June 8th event are valid.

Please register so that we may communicate via group email closer to the event date to coordinate possible carpools and to plan arrival at the gates so that we may set up tailgating together! Let's do up the tailgating in style--Myopia-style!

Ready for next ski season? Let's head to Whistler/Blackcomb!

If the biggest and best are on your winter getaway checklist, a ski trip to Whistler should top your list. With 8,171 skiable acres, Whistler offers nearly 1,000 more acres than North America’s second-largest resort! Despite its size, it’s easy to navigate thanks to the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, connecting Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain via the world’s longest unsupported cable car span—1.88 miles. Whistler Blackcomb’s lift system can handle over 65,000 skiers per hour, minimizing wait times even during peak season. Its status as a premier destination was cemented in the 2010 Winter Olympics, where it hosted alpine skiing events. That season saw a record snowfall of over 460 inches. With the most uphill capacity in North America, Whistler Blackcomb attracts nearly 2 million visitors annually.

Whistler’s Tyrolean-style villages—Whistler Village, Upper Village and Creekside—offer a range of dining, shopping, après-ski bars and nightlife to suit every preference. Beyond its massive terrain and modern facilities, Whistler delivers an exceptional village experience. It’s famous for expert terrain, with chutes, bowls, cliffs, technical glades and Olympic racecourses. Intermediates can enjoy expansive blue runs, while beginners have dedicated learning zones on both mountains. The resort’s eco-friendly initiatives protect its stunning alpine environment for future generations.
